Paint the Town Green
We love a feel-good, candy-colored fairy tale — especially at the holidays. Thankfully, the splashy, irreverent Shrek The Musical opens on Broadway next week, and in the spirit of the season, Modern Tonic is giving 10 readers a pair of tickets to the only musical in town that features fiercely talented tap dancing rats and the biggest damn dragon puppet you’ll ever see on a stage (enter contest here).
Shrek follows the grumpy green ogre (silken-voiced Brian d’Arcy James) as he falls for beautiful Princess Fiona (irresistibly charming Tony winner Sutton Foster) while on a quest — with wise-cracking jackass pal (Daniel Breaker, whose comic timing is impeccable) by his side — to win back the deed to his swamp from the evil, vertically challenged Lord Farquaad (the fantastically funny Christopher Sieber, who spends the entire performance on his knees!). While the show has the standard musical format (two acts, a love story, etc.) it’s far from conventional: The songs poke fun at musicals from A Chorus Line to Wicked, with plenty of knowing asides (the Big Bad Wolf, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma, refers to himself as a “hot tranny mess”).
Like Shrek, who must slay the dragon to save Fiona, you face a challenge to collect your prize: Come up with a snappy caption for the show’s ad campaign, which lampoons Broadway faves (click here to view.)
We’ll give the writers of the ten best entries tickets to see Shrek The Musical and put their witticisms on shrekster.com, the official social networking site of Far, Far Away. However, living happily ever after is up to you.
Shrek The Musical opens December 14 at the Broadway Theatre in New York City. Win tickets to Shrek The Musical here. This is an advertiser-sponsored contest.
