Superstars, DJ

The phrase “superstar DJ” might seem a bit antiquated in an age when even your arrhythmic aunt can beat-match on a laptop, but this summer the world-famous mega-mixers are out in full force! Last month, Paul Oakenfold served Perfecto Vegas, a two-hour mix of trance, trance and more trance (insert stifled yawn here). Now comes One Love (out August 25), the fourth album from electro-house magnate David Guetta, with guest appearances by Kelly Rowland, Ne-Yo, the Black Eyed Peas and Estelle. Now that sounds interesting!

Urban R&B idols collaborating with club celebs isn’t anything new, and the beats on One Love don’t exactly think outside the boom box. But thanks to Guetta’s beat savvy and creative focus, the album feels like a summit instead of a hodgepodge. It’s easy seeing hip-hoppers and club kids vibing side-by-side to “Sexy Bitch,” featuring Akon, just as Kelly Rowland’s three vocal turns (our fave is “When Love Takes Over” — this summer’s worldwide dance anthem) could work both the Chelsea set and bearded nu-disco hipsters into a tizzy.

Besides, you know you’re listening to good sh*t when even the two Black Eyed Peas cuts sound good. One love, indeed.

One Love will be available August 25 from Astralwerks.
