Philly-raised Santogold makes seriously smart New Wave pop (think M.I.A, but more melodic). And she can multi-task! This mesmerizing electro-tune skewers pretentious New Yorkers and it makes for a stern soundtrack to the video's eerie 1984-esque visuals. Been harboring fears of getting slimed Double Dare-style during an arty Cold War blitzkreig? Then you might want to be on guard. Santogold’s self-titled album is due April 22.

Black Kids “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You”
Even in a silly Louis XIV wig amid cartoony, fluffy visuals, lead singer Reggie Youngblood’s got a point. If your new squeeze dances like a dork—tough! You just gotta deal. Still, if the clumsy oaf needs a surefire tune to bust some badass moves to, he can’t do better than this new pop gem. It’s even got cheerleader shout-outs!

The Whip “Trash”
Girl drummers are always a good thing. Shaggy bangs on a stylishly dour lead singer work, too. Add some spooky day-glo masks and a drivingly irresistible tune from Manchester-based The Whip that hornily proclaims, “I want to be trash…” and you’ve got primal pop-rock satisfaction. Just watch out for charging furry apes.
