Being John Barrowman
We always thought Torchwood star and accomplished West End actor John Barrowman would make the perfect boyfriend — based solely on his big blue eyes and dimples roomy enough to bathe in.
But after reading his autobiography Anything Goes (out April 28), consider us smitten. Beautiful face and body aside, the Scottish-born actor (whose family moved to the U.S. when he was 9) reveals in a completely matter-of-fact fashion his life in show business (from school plays to Opryland to Broadway and beyond) as an unapologetic, openly gay man. So open, in fact, producers on his short-lived series, 1995's Central Park West, told him to “stop being seen in public with your partner.” (The series was cancelled before a war could erupt.)
Thankfully, Barrowman keeps the juicy Hollywood dish coming: At 24, he was offered a modeling job on designer Valentino’s yacht, only to discover the legend (35 years his senior) was trying to seduce him: “He said, ‘Your eyes shine like sapphires against the blue of the sea.’” Hey, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
Anything Goes will be available April 28 from Michael O’Mara Books.
