September Music Video 3-Way
Summer’s nearly over. So settle into your new dorm room (or old job) and relax with a trio of international one-click video picks.
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour “The Sun Ain’t Shining No More”
When was our last Danish crush? A week ago? Well, we love our icy blondes! Singer Mette Lindberg — looking like Julianne Moore in a fright wig — and multi-instrumentalist Lars Iversen comprise this pop duo. The video’s a mash of performance footage and melting kaleidoscopic visuals, while the song kidnaps “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” for a tour of Northern soul. A debut, we’re told, is on the horizon.
Kreesha Turner “Don’t Call Me Baby”
Canada’s hardly a hotbed of sultry R&B, but this Edmonton native may change that with this sassy number from her debut Passion. Depressed by boys (and who isn’t?), Kreesha hides in her bedroom until therapy arrives in the form of her BFFs. The girls eat ice cream, dance around, put on a fashion show. This mini Sex and the City’s a trifle, but the song has a hook as galvanic as ABBA, with an attitude straight from the streets (okay, the streets of Edmonton, but whatever). Passion is available as an import; US release in early 2009.
Sia “Soon We’ll Be Found”
Her song “Breathe Me” is famous for sound-tracking the Six Feet Under series finale, as it peered into the future; so it’s only right that the Australian moppet is taking a giant step back in time. In this dazzling clip, she creates a vision of the Garden of Eden with sign language, shadow puppets and glow-in-the-dark paints. The graceful story — all communicated by hands in motion — is hypnotizing. From some people have REAL problems, out now.
