Homecoming
“You had me at hello.” “I’m the king of the world!” “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Some movie lines stick with us because they represent a moment or a feeling that resonates deep inside of us. That line in Away We Go (opens June 5 in Los Angeles and NYC) comes when a pregnant Verona (Maya Rudolph) asks her boyfriend Burt (John Krasinski), “Are we f*** ups?” Unsentimental, honest — and you know you’ve been there.
Away We Go is what happens when the dinner party guest list of your dreams comes together in real life to make a road trip/romantic comedy for anyone who’s ever wondered where they belong. Academy Award winner Sam Mendes directs Rudolph and Krasinski from a script written by novelist couple David Eggers and Vendela Vida, set against a soundtrack by singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch (oh, and the production was green).
What may sound hipper than thou on paper turns out to be a wackily humorous and totally relatable gem that follows Verona and Burt as they travel from city to city trying to decide where to raise their unborn child. Turns out figuring out where home is goes hand and hand with figuring out who you are — and for Verona and Burt, that means taking the long road to learn that they’re not “f*** ups” after all.
Away We Go will open in New York and Los Angeles June 5, and nationally throughout June, from Focus Features.
